Seattle city was found in 1857 and was named after Chief Sealth who was the leader of the Suquammish and Duwamish Native American Tribes. In 1980 it was named “ Emerald City” keeping in view its lush green trees. It is also popular as “ Queen City”, “ Jet City” and “the Gateway to Alaska”.

Seattle is not only largest city in Washington, but also in the entire Pacific Northwest region of the United States of America.

Seattle is located between Lake Washington to the east and Pacific Ocean to the west. Elliot Bay is the city’s chief harbor and an inlet of Puget Sound. The city is an awesome view surrounded with water and mountains. Enclosed with Kitsap Mountains and Olympic mountains on the west (beyond the Sound) and Lake Sammaish and the Cascade Range on the east (beyond Lake Washington), Seattle attracts tourists seeking opportunities for camping, skiing, sailing, hiking, and bicycling all round the year.

Seattle, being an earthquake zone, has experienced many significant quakes. Nisqually Earthquake was the latest that did significant damage on February 28’ 2001; although there were no fatalities. Other strong quakes were witnessed in December’ 1972 and April’ 1949.

Seattle has moderated temperature extremes due to adjacent Puget Sound, Pacifuc Ocean and Lake Washington. The city has frequent rain showers as drizzle with occasional downpours. The city shows Mediterranean Climate with wet winter and dry summer pattern. Winter are cool and wet with temperature falling as low as 2-4 C, that lasts only a few days while summer, dry and warm with average daytime highs around 22- 26 C.

Tourists treasure possessed by Seattle is mainly its natural and scenic beauty. Apart from that; city’s major attractions are – Space Needle, Northwest seaport, Frye Art Museum, Seattle aquarium, Woodland Park Zoo and Ye Olde Curiosity Shop.

Seattle is also proud of The University of Washington, which is the largest university in northwestern United States. Sea-Tac i.e. Seattle – Tacoma International Airport is another feather in city’s cap.
